Research:

Tissue-resident memory CD4+ and CD8+ T cells (TRM) have been identified in many tissues and organs of mice and humans. While TRM that reside in barrier (skin, gut, lung, etc.) and non-barrier tissues (pancreas, kidney, liver, brain, etc.) play an essential role in protecting against infections and cancer, aberrant activation of these cells may give rise to autoimmune conditions, including inflammatory bowel disease, vitiligo, and multiple sclerosis. I propose to explore strategies to deplete TRM in an autoimmune disease model; this will help elucidate tissue-specific mechanisms of T cell recruitment, retention, and homeostasis.
