Thesis Research:
Cytotoxic CD8 T cells serve on the immunological front line, killing host cells infected with pathogens or eliminating nascent tumors. Resident memory CD8 T cells play a particularly important role in the elimination of previously encountered pathogens. Their advantageous position in parenchymal tissue combined with higher expression of effector molecules makes resident memory cells particularly well suited to combat the early stages of an infection. While it is not universally present, CD69 is a useful marker of tissue residency.  My work is focused on the mechanisms by which cells can become resident memory.  I am studying whether CD69 is required for tissue residency, or whether it is dispensable.
