Research Interests:
Cell biology of cancer-induced bone resorption, mechanism of bone cancer pain and bone cancer-targeted gene delivery system
Research is divided into the evaluation of cancer-induced
bone pain and the development of new therapies to treat bone
cancer. Each area of investigation focuses around the role
of the body’s principal bone-resorbing cell, the osteoclast.
Activities of the laboratory focus on developing experimental
animal models to emulate human diseases, using those models
to identify molecular and cellular bases for bone cancer and
its sequelae, and using understanding of the mechanistic pathophysiology
to develop novel therapies. Therapies recently developed involve
external beam radiation, treatment with osteoclast inhibitors,
treatment with anti angiogenesis agents, and treatment with
cell-based gene delivery systems.
